Call us at 619-470-4227

Paradise Valley Hospital's South Bay Rehabilitation Center is the only acute inpatient rehabilitation program serving South Bay residents.

Our specialized inpatient and outpatient programs include a complete range of treatment for patients with disabilities, designed to meet each patient's unique needs. By restoring independence through rehabilitation, our goal is to facilitate significant improvement to each patient's quality of life.

In both word and action, Paradise Valley Hospital is committed to:

  • High-quality, personalized care
  • Comfortable, family-like setting
  • Using all available services to help our patients attain the highest level of function in the home and community

Our return-to-home and return-to-community outcomes are better than regional and national outcomes. We achieve this by working closely with the patients and loved ones to establish personalized goals specific to each patient, monitor progress and formerly evaluate improvement.

CARF-Accredited Program

The South Bay Rehabilitation Center is accredited by the Commission on the Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities. CARF-accredited programs pass a stringent accreditation process that ensures patients receive the highest standards of quality care and meet international performance standards.

In addition, South Bay Rehabilitation Center services are located on the Paradise Valley Hospital campus, which means most acute medical programs that arise during your stay can be treated on-site. Patients may not have to be transferred elsewhere should the need arise for medical care.

Rehabilitation – Close to Your Home

Everything we do at our rehabilitation center is oriented to maximizing our patients' quality of life. Each member of our rehabilitation team is compassionate, skilled at what they do, and dedicated to tailor-made rehabilitation solutions to achieve each patient's desired outcome.

Residents of South San Diego County don't have to travel elsewhere for exceptional rehabilitative care. Paradise Valley Hospital provides the highest quality care close to your home and your family. You are entitled to choose a rehab facility that is conveniently located and easily accessible, regardless of where you received your initial hospital care. Paradise Valley Hospital's rehabilitation center accepts nearly all private and government insurance plans with physician referral.

Another reason we believe you should have top-quality rehabilitative care close to home is family. We believe the family is an essential partner in restoring health and hope. Families are encouraged to participate in therapy, attend conferences, and visit regularly. The patient's determination and the support of family and friends all contribute to the recovery process.

Benefits of Hospital-based Rehabilitation

An inpatient rehab facility (IRF) is a rehabilitation facility with an acute level of medical care, and a minimum of three hours of rehab therapy each day. Other types of post-acute rehabilitation programs are not required to provide such intensive therapy. Because of their acute level of medical care and strong emphasis on functional mobility, IRFs are associated with shorter stays and faster returns to the life you love! IRFs also tend to have better overall patient outcomes, with fewer post-rehab hospital readmissions and emergency room visits. If you, or a loved one, will require rehabilitation after a hospitalization or surgery, ask your doctor about the possibility of going to an inpatient rehab facility!

In 2016, the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association recommended inpatient acute rehabilitation for stroke survivors over skilled nursing facilities for better outcomes. READ MORE

Advanced Care

South Bay Rehabilitation Center is committed to offering the highest quality inpatient care. Our Neuro-Development Treatment (NDT) approach, for example, is used to provide care to patients needing assistance with functional tasks. We are one of only a few centers in San Diego emphasizing this approach. We offer a variety of specialized services, including cognitive-behavioral rehabilitation, swallow rehabilitation, treatment for bowel and bladder disorders and a skin management program.

Ongoing Therapy and Care

Our goal is to return patients to their homes. Occasionally ongoing medical care is required. In these instances, we help arrange for therapy or nursing staff members to help provide this kind of care. Another vital part of recovery involves interacting with others who have similar physical challenges. Our rehabilitation team provides information and referral to a wide range of community programs — including the Stroke Club, Meals on Wheels, Senior Day Care Center, Fitness Clinic for the Physically Disabled, and Vocational Rehabilitation.
