Of the 57 hospitals across the nation ranked as having the lowest pneumonia 30-day mortality rate, Paradise Valley Hospital was the only San Diego hospital to be recognized, according to the most recent Becker's Hospital Review's Infection Control and Clinical Quality Report.

Paradise Valley Hospital’s rate was 8%, compared with the national average of 11.5%. The 30-day death (mortality) measure is an estimate of deaths from any cause within 30 days of a hospital admission for patients hospitalized with pneumonia.

"To be the only San Diego hospital recognized as having among the lowest pneumonia rates in the nation underscores our commitment to our patients’ care and safety,” said Neerav Jadeja, Paradise Valley Hospital administrator. “For San Diegans, these quality indicators allow them more information to be better informed when choosing a hospital for their care.”

He added that Paradise Valley Hospital is also among the “Top 100 Hospitals” in the nation as named by national organization Truven Health and the only San Diego hospital to be a Top Performer in Key Quality Measures as named by The Joint Commission.

Results were determined from Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Hospital Compare system data. These rates reflect data measured from July 2011 through June 2014, the most recent data available. To see the complete list of 57 hospitals, click here.
